Leadership Institute
During the 1998 Session of the General Assembly, legislation was passed that encourages eligible county officials - County Judge/Executives, Magistrates, Commissioners, County Clerks, Sheriffs, and Jailers - to obtain continuing education training throughout their public service careers. This legislation states that qualified county officials who earn 40 hours of approved training each year are eligible for monetary incentives. The incentive amount fluctuates based upon the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the year payable. Training incentive units accumulate (within a term of office) to a maximum of four. The 2015 training incentive is $985.25 for one training unit (40 credit hours).
In 2000, KACo implemented the Leadership Institute by offering continuing education through workshops for local officials at regional sites throughout the Commonwealth. KACo utilizes a network of educators, including in-house staff and other individuals with extensive experience in govenment. Because KACo is your association, we strive to keep attendance at our workshops inexpensive and relevant to your duties. All workshops are interactive and are pre-approved for House Bill 810 training credit through the Department for Local Government.
