In 2022, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced a first-of-its-kind cybersecurity grant program specifically for state, local, and territorial governments across the country.
The grant program, called the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP) helps counties and other eligible entities address cybersecurity risks and threats to information systems owned or operated by county governments.
In FY 2023, $374.9 million was made available under the SLCGP, with varying funding amounts allocated over four years from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
Who administers the grant program?
The DHS Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) serves as the subject-matter expert in cybersecurity related issues for the grant program while the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provides grant administration and oversight for appropriated funds, including award and allocation of funds to eligible entities, financial management, and oversight of funds execution.
The Kentucky Office of Homeland Security (KOHS) administers the grant application process in Kentucky.
When will the 2024 grant application open?
While FEMA has not yet provided a release date for the 2024 SLCGP, it is likely that the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) will be available in summer 2024.
How can I learn more?
The Kentucky Office of Homeland Security is offering a series of virtual workshops to help inform and prepare county and city leaders for the 2024 application process.
