The next session of the KACo Leadership Institute’s focus on opioid settlement funds will feature discussions on compassionate care, effective prevention strategies, regional collaboration and county jail compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The seminar will run 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. CDT Thursday, Aug. 29 at the Green River Area Development District in Owensboro.
County officials will learn strategies and best practices to effectively utilize opioid settlement funds for maximum community impact.
Speakers and topics include:
- Liz Harney, Education Coordinator and Critical Care Paramedic for CHI Saint Joseph Health: The role of EMS in providing compassionate care to individuals suffering from Opioid Use Disorder and Substance Use Disorder
- Hannah Edelen, Director of Policy and Strategic Initiatives for Kentucky Youth Advocates: Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) as predictors of Substance Use Disorder
- Lake Cumberland Area Development District: Regional approaches for opioid settlement funds
- County jailers: Steps for providing medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), available funding and potential legal implications for noncompliance
