Governor announces new COVID-19 restrictions

Governor Andy Beshear announced new measures today meant to curb the exponential growth of COVID-19 infection rates across Kentucky.  

Most new measures will be in effect from Friday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. until Sunday, Dec. 13 at 11:59 p.m. and include:

Gatherings

• Private indoor gatherings limited to two households, not exceeding total of 8 people
• Attendance at indoor venues, (e.g. weddings and funerals), event spaces or theatres limited to 25 participants per room
• Does not apply to in-person services at places of worship

Restaurants and bars

• Closed to indoor seating
• Outdoor seating allowed if social distancing and mask rules are met
• Note: the state will make $40 million available to assist impacted restaurants and bars; businesses that qualify will receive a $10,000 stipend

Gyms, fitness centers and pools

• Must maintain 6 ft. apart
• Group classes prohibited
• 33% occupancy
• Masks required

Sports

• Kentucky High School Athletics Association has decided to postpone all fall sports and their practices until after Dec. 13
• Individual lessons allowed, but masking is required

Schools

• All public and private schools (K-12) cease in-person instructions beginning Nov. 23
• Middle, high schools will remain in remote instruction until Jan. 4, 2021
• Elementary schools may reopen on Dec. 7 if their county is not in the red zone and the school follows all Healthy at Schools guidance

Professional services

• Professional services and office-based businesses must mandate remote work when possible.
• Offices that remain open must ensure that no more than 33% of employees are physically present in the office any given day.
