Free at-home COVID tests now available from federal government

The Administration began accepting orders for the at-home test kits Tuesday, Jan. 18, as part of efforts to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. 

Four free rapid tests have been made available for every household. The test kits to be distributed are rapid antigen at-home tests that provide results within 30 minutes. These tests work whether or not you have COVID-19 symptoms or are up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations, and they do not require a lab drop-off.

Tests can be ordered by visiting covidtests.gov and entering a residential address. Delivery will begin by the end of January, and consumers can expect tests to be delivered approximately seven to 12 days after an order has been placed. 

A system to order by phone will be launched in the near future to meet the needs of those who are unable to access the website. 

In addition to free at-home tests, 400 million free N95 face masks will be available through pharmacies and community health centers in the coming weeks.
