EFT vendor payments will soon be an option for fiscal courts

By Kayla Carter Smith, Policy Analyst

Thanks to the passage of House Bill 555 (Sections 7-8), county fiscal courts will have the option to utilize electronic funds transfers (EFT’s) to pay expenses approved by the fiscal court. This payment option will allow the use of electronic signatures to meet signature requirements.

The new law takes effect June 27.

HB 555 also expands eligible expenses to be adopted through standing orders to include payments to vendors that regularly provide services to the county.

Standing orders adopted by the fiscal court must be renewed annually and submitted to the state local finance officer by July 1 of each year with the submission of the county budget.
