Bevin special session

By
Gov. Bevin calls Kentucky legislators into a special session beginning at 8:00 p.m. this evening.

Gov. Bevin announced the special session during a press conference this afternoon which aired on his Facebook page. Bevin mentioned the Kentucky Supreme Court decision last Thursday that ruled Senate Bill 151, the pension reform bill, unconstitutional. He said changes in Kentucky's pension system still need to be made.

"We have a legal and moral obligation to provide and deliver on the promises that have been made," Bevin said. "The only chance we have of doing that for those already retired and working toward retirement is to change the system going forward."

The state house and state senate will gavel in within their respective chambers tonight.

"They will be coming in," Bevin said. "The first readings of the things that are going to be discussed will take place, and the process will begin."

The governor’s proclamation states that the special session’s sole purpose is to consider legislation regarding the state’s public employee pension plans.
