The Kentucky Association of Counties lobbies the Kentucky General Assembly on behalf of counties and elected county officials. KACo’s legislative services staff review newly introduced bills and the status of bills that have been identified as having a potential impact on county government or elected county officials on a daily basis. A list of bills that have been reviewed by the KACo Legislative Committee and KACo’s position on those bills is posted regularly during each session of the General Assembly.
Description of Services
KACo’s position on legislation is developed by the KACo legislative committee. The committee is comprised of the KACo president and one representative from each of KACo's affiliate associations. Those affiliates are: the Kentucky Circuit Clerks Association; the Kentucky Commonwealth Attorneys Association, the Kentucky Coroners Association, the Kentucky County Attorneys Association, the Kentucky County Clerks Association, the Kentucky County Judge/Executive Association, the Kentucky Jailers Association, the Kentucky Magistrates & Commissioners Association, the Kentucky Property Valuation Administrators Association and the Kentucky Sheriffs Association. In order for KACo to support or oppose legislation, it must have the votes of seventy-five (75%) of those in attendance of a legislative committee meeting.
