Annexation in Kentucky



HB 596 – What does the legislation do?

Sponsored by Rep. Jonathan Dixon, HB 596 is a compromise bill passed during the 2024 regular legislative session addressing city annexation and the occupational tax revenue lost by some counties with a population of 30,000 or more. The legislation is the result of the Task Force on Local Government Annexation, which met for several months in 2023.


Sample documents

These sample documents can be used to aid county fiscal courts in passing a resolution aimed at entering into negotiations for revenue and cost sharing between a county and city, along with formalizing an interlocal cooperation agreement.
