Representative Sal Santoro has been presented a 2021 County Advocate award by the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo).

Rep. Santoro, who represents a portion of Boone County and has served in the legislature since 2007, was selected as a recipient for his steadfast efforts to strengthen counties across Kentucky, which were vital in moving the state forward.

During the 2021 session, Rep. Santoro sponsored and supported bills that advanced issues important to counties. During his time in the Kentucky House he has also been a longtime and staunch advocate of investment in county roads and bridges, which is also a top legislative priority for KACo. Safe, reliable roads transport our workers, school buses and emergency vehicles faster and contribute to economic development expansion when we can safely and more efficiently deliver goods to market.

“This award is a great honor and I appreciate KACo for recognizing our efforts in Frankfort,” said Representative Santoro. “I’m pleased with the working relationship I have with KACo and our local county officials. After all, our constituents are best served when all levels of government work together to do the right things.”

Jim Henderson, KACo Executive Director and CEO, presented the award to Representative Santoro on behalf of county officials across Kentucky.

“Rep. Santoro is one of the best,” said Henderson. “Counties greatly admire his passion & his willingness to tackle the tough issue of transportation funding. His no nonsense approach and true understanding of the transportation needs of counties, makes him an ideal recipient of our County Advocate Award. Thanks Sal for being a champion for counties!”

The County Advocate award is being presented to legislators who have supported counties throughout the 2021 session by sponsoring or shepherding legislation that helps counties continue to provide services without unfunded mandates or limiting home rule.
