Representative John Blanton has been presented a 2021 County Advocate award by the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo).

Rep. Blanton, who represents Knott, Magoffin and a portion of Pike counties was selected as a recipient for his steadfast efforts to strengthen Kentucky counties. Among the committees he is assigned to, he serves as chairman of the House Budget Review Subcommittee on General Government.

During the 2021 session, Representative Blanton sponsored and supported bills that advanced issues important to counties.

Among the bills he sponsored was legislation to create greater efficiencies in the timeline of annual county government audits, the goal of which is to conserve tax dollars while maintaining full transparency on the part of both the county and the Auditor’s office.

“I am honored to receive this award from the Kentucky Association of Counties and really grateful for the working relationship I have with the fiscal courts and county officials in my district,” said Rep. Blanton. “We both serve the same people and working together allows us to do more for the community.”

KACo Executive Director and CEO Jim Henderson presented the award to Rep. Blanton at a Magoffin County Fiscal Court meeting on behalf of county officials across Kentucky.

“Rep. Blanton is on the forefront, leading on the issues important to counties. He’s not afraid to tackle a difficult topic & he’s eager to learn more about how he can help us,” said Henderson. “County officials in the 92nd House district already know what an advocate he is for them, but KACo wants counties across the entire state to realize the important work Rep. Blanton is doing on their behalf. We’re honored to be able to recognize Rep. John Blanton as a 2021 County Advocate.”

The County Advocate award is being presented to legislators who supported counties throughout the 2021 session by sponsoring or shepherding legislation that helps counties continue to provide services without unfunded mandates or limiting home rule.
