The Kentucky Association of Counties announced today that Dan Mosley has been named the association's next deputy executive director. Mosley will assume the role in January, following the end of his term as Harlan County judge/executive.
“As a well-respected county leader, Dan has earned the trust of his community, fellow county officials, state legislators and national leaders. Those relationships and insights are invaluable,” said KACo Executive Director and CEO Jim Henderson. “Dan is the perfect choice for a deputy to help lead our organization. County governments in Kentucky and our association are entering a period of transition as a new generation of elected county leaders takes office. Dan will play an important role in that transition, and I'm thrilled to have him join the KACo team.”
A lifelong resident of Harlan County, Mosley is a three-term county judge/executive and opted not to seek re-election this year.
He previously served as E-911 and special programs coordinator for the Harlan County Fiscal Court. In addition to his public service, Mosley has worked as a loan officer and marketing manager at the Bank of Harlan and as the Cumberland Valley bureau chief for WYMT.
“I am incredibly excited, honored and grateful for the opportunity to join the KACo team and begin this next chapter of my public service career. Having spent 16 years in county government, I know firsthand how important KACo is to Kentucky’s counties, and I am humbled by the opportunity to now help advance that mission from a different perspective,” Mosley said. “I am grateful for the confidence that has been placed in me, and I look forward to bringing my experience, relationships and passion for local government to this role while learning from county leaders and working alongside an outstanding team.”
Mosley is no stranger to KACo, having served as the association’s 2024-25 president and as a member of the KACo Workers' Compensation Fund Board of Trustees.
In addition to KACo, Mosley has held leadership positions with the Kentucky County Judge/Executive Association, the Kentucky Coal and Mineral County Coalition, and the Kentucky Council of Area Development Districts.
In his home county, Mosley has served as president of the Harlan County Chamber of Commerce and as a board member for the Cawood Ledford Boys & Girls Club.
Founded in 1974, KACo is a non-profit, non-partisan, member-owned association dedicated to serving as the unified voice of county governments in the Commonwealth.
KACo represents more than 1,500 elected county officials—including judge/executives, magistrates and commissioners, sheriffs, jailers, county clerks, circuit court clerks, county attorneys, commonwealth’s attorneys, property valuation administrators and coroners—in all 120 Kentucky counties.
