KY House releases redistricting plan
View both the current map and the proposed changes here.
Rep. Jerry Miller is expected to file the redistricting plan when legislators return for the 2022 Regular Session on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022. House Speaker David Osborne has signaled that the General Assembly will meet through Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022 to pass the legislation.
The new boundaries mean that four districts will have incumbents running against each other:
- Republican House members Norma Kirk McCormick and Bobby McCool in Eastern Kentucky
- West Kentucky Republicans Jim Gooch and Lynn Bechler
- Louisville-area Democrats: Lisa Willner will face McKenzie Cantrell and Josie Raymond will face Mary Lou Marzian
Redistricting maps for the Kentucky Senate and U.S. Congressional districts are expected to be released next week.
Filing deadline extension bill expected
House Speaker David Osborne expects to introduce a bill next week that will extend the candidate filing deadline from the current deadline of Jan. 7 to Jan. 25, 2022. While the filing deadline bill is expected to cover all offices – including county officials – KACo has communicated with legislative leadership our concerns regarding the inclusion of county officials in the deadline extension. KACo has requested that county offices be exempt from the deadline extension.
