KACo launches toolkit for public officials holding meetings remotely

Jennifer Burnett
The toolkit discusses the legal and technological aspects of hosting a public meeting remotely.

In these unusual and difficult times, county officials continue to balance the necessity of practicing social distancing with the need to provide essential services to their communities. That includes holding public meetings, such as fiscal court meetings.

Governor Beshear has recommended that fiscal courts, in accordance with social distancing guidelines, hold their meetings via video or audio conference. Legislation has been passed that allows counties to meet the legal requirements of holding a public meeting remotely more easily during this state of emergency.

To help you navigate these challenging issues, KACo has launched a toolkit for county officials for hosting a meeting by video conference. The toolkit discusses the legal and technological aspects of hosting a public meeting remotely.

We look forward to when it is safe again to gather and we can return to in-person meetings. Until then, we hope you will find this resource helpful.
