The Proclamation recognized the importance of counties and that county officials have met the challenges faced in recent years through creativity, dedication and difficult decision making.

To All To Whom These Presents Shall Come:
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth of Kentucky was once part of Fincastle County, Virginia, tying our history and origin to the county form of government; and
WHEREAS, The county serves as the primary interference between Kentucky’s citizens and their established governments; and
WHEREAS, In recent times, county officials and their employees have been asked to maintain these services with fewer fiscal resources; and
WHEREAS, These officials and employees have met this challenge through creativity, dedication and difficult decision making; and
WHEREAS, With 120 counties in Kentucky, the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo) celebrates County Government Day on February 9, 2022, raising awareness of counties’ roles and responsibilities and promoting county government;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ANDY BESHEAR, Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, do hereby proclaim February 9, 2022, as COUNTY GOVERNMENT DAY.
