Did you know that according to NetDiligence’s Public Entities 2021 Spotlight Report, criminal activity accounted for 72 percent of cyber insurance claims? That the average cost of an incident was $145,000? 

Ransomware was the leading cause of loss by far, with 32 percent of all public entity claims involving ransomware. The average cost of a ransomware incident was $157,000.

But Public Entities experienced cyber losses for other reasons, too, such as staff mistakes, programming errors, etc. Shown below, the top four causes of loss over the past five years were ransomware, hackers, staff mistakes and business email compromise.
