SPOTLIGHT

Be weather aware this weekend, particularly Feb. 15

From the National Weather Service
Any first responders dealing with water hazards also may have an additional weather element to deal with in the cold.

The NWS will be hosting a briefing today, Jan. 14 at 3:15 p.m. ET on the situation. You can join the teleconference here.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for almost all of Kentucky and portions of southern Indiana in effect from early Saturday through midday Sunday.

Widespread areal, river and isolated flash flooding are all possible in that time frame.

The Storm Prediction Center has introduced a marginal risk for severe weather Saturday, although confidence is low and conditional for actual development.

NWS is monitoring if temperatures drop into the mid-teens Sunday night. Should that happen, any lingering wet spots could freeze, and black ice could be a problem for the Monday morning commute.

Any first responders dealing with water hazards may also have an additional weather element to deal with in the cold.

Here is a link to NWS’ updated briefing slides for this weekend’s expected heavy rain and flooding. The forecast rainfall amounts and placement have changed very little, and confidence continues to increase.
