This course is designed to encourage objective and rational thinking combined with proper decision making concerning emergency driving situations including whether to engage in a vehicle pursuit. The learning outcomes for this course will be to prepare law enforcement officers for the mental and physical stressors that are part of emergency and pursuit driving. The student will increase understanding of physical limitations and increased perception response times of the human body under various conditions.
This course will offer training in five topics related to diminishable skills for law enforcement officers including firearms, driving, defensive tactics, legal update, and officer survival first aid. The learning outcomes for this course are for the student to receive updates on necessary basic skills and legal knowledge. The training will help identify the importance and need to train in these diminishable areas.
This course will provide law enforcement officers with the skills to safely conduct vehicle stops. Officers will participate in a combination of Red Gun and Simunitions scenarios to develop officer skills and tactics while applying the principles of S.T.O.P.S. The learning outcomes for this course are to be able to assess risks and threat cues by drivers and passengers; safe positioning of police and violator vehicles; safe methods for approaching vehicles and making contact with driver/passenger; case law regarding vehicle stops; and safe methods for conducting “felony,” or high-risk stops.
