Leadership Institute
During the 1998 Session of the General Assembly, legislation was passed that encourages eligible county officials - County Judge/Executives, Magistrates, Commissioners, County Clerks, Sheriffs, and Jailers - to obtain continuing education training throughout their public service careers. This legislation states that eligible county officials, who earn 40 hours of approved training each year, are eligible for monetary incentives that fluctuate based upon the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the year payable. Training incentive units accumulate each year up to a maximum of four cumulative incentive units by the 4th year of the term of office. The 2010 training incentive was $906.06 for one training unit (40 credit hours).
In 2000, KACo implemented the Leadership Institute by offering continuing education through workshops for local officials at regional sites throughout the Commonwealth. KACo utilizes a network of educators, both in-house personnel and other individual with extensive experience in govenment. Because KACo is your association, we strive to keep attendance at our workshops inexpensive and relevant to your duties. All workshops are interactive and are pre-approved for House Bill 810 training credit through the Department for Local Government.
