HB1 Signed into Law
At 2:00 p.m. on June 27, 2008 Governor Steve Beshear signed into law, House Bill 1 (BR 2). The signing of this pension reform legislation by the Governor was the culmination of a five day special legislative session called to begin dealing with critical task of placing Kentucky’s public pension system on sound financial footing. The PDF files below represent a summary of the provisions of the bill.
One document is a section by section summary of the pension legislation. The other document summarizes the legislation by category and compares prior law with the new provisions of House Bill 1 (BR 2). It should be noted that most of the new provisions dealing with the County Employees Retirement System (CERS), including the retirement and reemployment provisions, become effective September 1, 2008.
